AudioStrip is a macOS menu bar utility that pins a real-time audio level meter to any screen edge for streamers, podcasters, and broadcast professionals.

100-Word Description

AudioStrip is a macOS menu bar app that displays a floating audio level meter on any edge of your screen. It supports three professional metering standards: VU, PPM (IEC 60268-10), and LUFS (ITU-R BS.1770-4) with momentary, short-term, and integrated loudness. The meter floats above all windows, including fullscreen apps, and never steals focus. It works with any input device your Mac can see, from built-in microphones to multi-channel USB interfaces. Designed for live streamers, podcasters, and broadcast engineers who need persistent audio monitoring without disrupting their workflow.

300-Word Description

AudioStrip is a lightweight macOS utility that puts a professional audio level meter on the edge of your screen. Running entirely from the menu bar with no Dock icon or app window, it stays out of the way while keeping your audio levels visible at all times.

The meter strip pins to any screen edge — left, right, top, or bottom — and floats above all other windows. It follows you across Spaces, appears over fullscreen apps, and never takes focus from the app you are working in. At 16 points thin, it takes less space than the macOS Dock.

AudioStrip supports three professional metering modes. VU mode provides broadcast-standard ballistics with 300ms integration. PPM mode follows the IEC 60268-10 Type I standard with fast-attack, slow-return behavior for catching transient peaks. LUFS mode implements ITU-R BS.1770-4 loudness measurement with K-weighting filters, showing momentary, short-term, and integrated loudness. Built-in presets for YouTube/Spotify (-14 LUFS), Apple Music and podcasts (-16 LUFS), and broadcast (-23 LUFS) place a target reference line directly on the meter.

The app detects every audio input device on your Mac via CoreAudio, supporting 1 to 8 channels. If a selected device disconnects, it falls back to the system default. Settings are accessible from the menu bar dropdown or by right-clicking the meter strip. Global keyboard shortcuts toggle visibility and change position without switching apps.

Built with SwiftUI and AppKit on Apple Silicon, AudioStrip uses display-linked rendering and real-time-safe audio processing with bounded memory for reliable all-day operation. It launches at login and requires no configuration after initial setup.
