Smart Captions uses on-device AI via Apple’s FoundationModels framework to generate natural-language descriptions and tags for media. All processing happens locally — no data leaves the device.

• Plus / Pro: Full AI captioning and tagging.

• macOS 26+ with Apple Intelligence enabled.
• Apple Silicon recommended for best performance.

UI Flow

1. Load media into the grid.
2. Smart Captions runs automatically in the background (or trigger manually from the menu).
3. Generated descriptions and tags appear in the metadata overlay and are searchable.

Known Limitations

• Requires macOS 26+ with Apple Intelligence; not available on older macOS versions or Intel Macs without Apple Intelligence.
• Caption quality depends on the FoundationModels on-device model; abstract or unusual content may get generic descriptions.
